He lies still,
clutching the only books he owns-
On The Road.
He reads it in crude light and whispers to himself,
he could walk as far as he wanted
If only he had a pen and paper.

Spilling into his hands are all the words
and all the poems he didn’t finish.
He wonders why he hasn’t been able to exist
without half empty words.
He wonders why he exists
and never finishes poems.
